**Import Requirements**

**Age Restriction:** Zambia does not impose an age limit on used vehicles for importation.
**Right-Hand Drive Vehicles:** Only right-hand drive vehicles are permitted for importation into Zambia, with exceptions for ambulances and fire engines.
**Inspection:** Vehicles must undergo a roadworthiness inspection by JEVIC or an authorized agency.

**Duties and Taxes**

The Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) assesses the vehicle's value based on the cost, insurance, and freight (CIF) value, including charges to importation point.
**Customs Duty**: Determined based on the vehicle's CIF (cost, insurance, freight) value and the type of vehicle
**Excise Duty**: Applicable based on vehicle type and engine capacity
**Import VAT**: 16% on the taxable value (CIF value + customs duty + excise duty)
**Carbon Emission Surtax**: Depending on engine CC and ranges from ZMW 50,000 to 200,000

**Documentation Required**

**Original Title and Registration Certificate:** Proof of ownership and registration.
**Purchase Invoice:** Details of the purchase date and price.
**Driver's License and International Insurance Policy (Green Card):** Valid driver's license and international insurance coverage.
**Original Bill of Lading and Non-Sale Certificate:** Shipping document and certificate confirming the vehicle is not for sale.
**Valuation Certificate:** Assessment of the vehicle's value.

**Import Process**

**Pre-Shipment Inspection:** Vehicles must undergo a roadworthiness inspection by an authorized agency.
**Shipping:** Vehicles are shipped via Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) or in a container to ports such as Dar es Salaam, Durban or Walvis Bay.
**Customs Clearance:** Upon arrival, vehicles must clear customs by submitting the required documentation and paying applicable duties and taxes.
**Registration:** After clearing customs, vehicles must be registered with the Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) to obtain Zambian number plates.
