It is recommended that clients consult with a licensed clearing agent in Zimbabwe, to guide you through the vehicle clearance process and ensure compliance with Zimbabwe’s import requirements, regulations, duties, and fees. **AutoProto can liaise with the clearing agent to ensure a smooth process.**

**Import Requirements**

**Age Restriction:** Vehicles must be less than 10 years old from the year of manufacture.
**Inspection:** Vehicles must undergo a roadworthiness inspection by ZIMRA or an authorized agency.

**Duties and Taxes**

The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) assesses the value of the vehicle based on the cost, insurance, and freight (CIF) value, including all charges up to the point of importation
**Import Duty:** vary depending on the engine capacity and age of the vehicle e.g. 1,495cc sedan = 25%.
**Surtax:** A surtax is applicable to passenger vehicles that are more than five years old at the time of importation.
**Value Added Tax (VAT):** 15% of the VAT value.

**Documentation Required**

**Invoice or Agreement of Sale:** Proof of purchase.
**Export Bill of Entry and Supporting Documents:** Proof of exportation from the country of origin.
**Registration Book:** For used vehicles.
**Freight Statement:** Details of shipping costs.
**Insurance Statement:** Proof of insurance coverage.

**Import Process**

**Pre-Shipment Inspection:** Vehicles must undergo a roadworthiness inspection by ZIMRA or an authorized agency.
**Shipping:** Vehicles are shipped via Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) or in a container to the Port of Durban in South Africa, then transported to Zimbabwe.
**Customs Clearance:** Upon arrival, vehicles must clear customs by submitting the required documentation and paying applicable duties and taxes.
**Registration:** After clearing customs, vehicles must be registered with ZIMRA to obtain Zimbabwean number plates
